December 17, 2009 Regina Car Share Co-operative (RCS) has introduced new lower pricing, available immediately to RCS members. It's now even more affordable to drive in and around Regina, without the hassles of vehicle ownership.
Distance rates are determined by how many hours you use the car in a single month. The rate calculation is done like this:
The RCS Board hopes the new rates will better satisfy the driving style of people from Saskatchewan who want to be able to travel great distances in a day or two, or just pop down to the grocery store once a week. We're also looking to avoid requiring members to pay a monthly minimum fee, and will review the new pricing structure in March 2010. If members are using the vehicle(s) enough, and gasoline prices stay low, there should be no need to adjust pricing at that time. Here are two driving scenarios to help you picture how RCS will save the occasional driver thousands of dollars a year according to CAA statistics*: Example 1: Chris uses the car for 1 hour 5 days a week. He therefore uses the vehicle a total of 20 hours a month. He also uses a total of 120 kilometres that month.
*CAA Driving Costs 2008 Edition puts the total cost of driving a Cobalt LT at $8440.50, or 70.3¢/km if driven 12000km per year. |
