There were 1,690,537 new vehicles purchased in Canada during 2007. This required at least two million tonnes of raw or recycled material such as steel; iron; plastics; rubber; aluminum; glass; copper and zinc. Sharing cars helps reduce the need for extracting, transporting and/or processing these resources.
